J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!!!

If you asked me at the beginning of 2008 to make a list of the things I felt I was least likely to say: “Brett Favre is now the starting quarterback for The New York Jets” would have topped the list.

But Brett Favre is now the starting quarterback for the New York Jets.

As a Jets fan this makes me very, very happy.

Of course as a Jets fan I have to be prepared to be let down, and I know that he’ll probably play one more year and then retire for good but I will face reality another time. For now The Jets have a chance.

  1. Are. You. Kidding. Me.

  2. Okay, so I’m going to preface this by saying that I’m a New Yorker who was raised a Redskins fan. *ducks*

Now that I got that bit over with… the question is, as cool as it is for the Jets to get Favre, will his offensive line be able to protect him?

  3. i totally thought of you when i got the text from ESPN last night (yes I have sports news sent to my phone, kill me now)

im glad for you since I know how much it sucks to be continually let down by a team. hello im a fucking seahawks fan.

  4. Joseph J. Finn

I’ll be thinking of you when Mr. Selfish throws his first interception.

Joseph – I will take the picks to have a QB who can throw the ball more than 30 yards. I’ve always liked Chad Pennington, I have a #10 Pennington Jerse, but he has no arm. Clemmens who started 8 games last year still needs a lot of work so why not hold a clipboard and watch Favre? It’s wierd I know and like I said it probably won’t end well but it’s something for me to look forward to.

  6. I don’t really understand the whole thing. Why’d he retire and then throw a hissy fit with the Packers just to be traded to the Jets? Doesn’t he have more Viagra commercials to make?

I told my wife when he retired in March that there was no way he was really retired. that said I didn’t expect this.

I have mixed feelings about this.
On one hand Favre is one of the greats
On the other there was a reason he retired, his game was starting to slip and I thought he wanted to go out on top.
It’s like the Yankees getting Randy Johnson 3 years after he was something special

  9. Does TheOtherWill blog?

  10. betheboy

Ex- You realize that The Other will is not my evil twin right?

  11. TheOtherWill

    EvilWill is TheOtherWill’s alter ego.
Like the Hulk but it’s not being angry that causes him to surface.
    It’s usually Booze.

You don’t want to see me drunk Mr.McGee
You really would’nt like me when I drunk

@Joseph – As a lifelong Packer fan who endured the 80s, dealt with Majkowski and welcomed that crazy kid from Mississippi I will say those interceptions bugged the hell outta me…but talk about disruptive to an opponent? You NEVER know when #4 will let one fly and yeah it burned him a lot but it also paid many more times than it didn’t.

Even as old as he is he is a top 5 QB and it sucks he isn’t in green and gold upon his return.

There is a difference between selfish and risky. Selfish QB’s get hurt…quickly and leave the league quickly. The NFL is full contact and is definitely not the NBA.

  13. When I saw that post title I totally thought it was a West Side Story reference.

    I’m SO gay.

Brett felt better after discovering that when he’s a Jet, he’s a Jet all the way.

It is impossible to avoid that glimmer of hope that the addition of Favre to the team brings, even with the unfortunate pessimistic tendencies that often have accompanied being a lifelong Jets fan. (I grew up in Queens and Sundays were for Jets games in the fall). However, to Little Bill, two new very good offensive linemen have also joined the team. In fact, that Jets have gone on quite the acquisition spree in the off season. Defensive personnel actually suited to the 3-4 defense.Again..quality players. Now lets see if it all gels.At least it’ll be interesting.

  16. Every time someone mentions the Jets, I picture a gaggle of fat white guys waiting in the Draft auditorium wearing jerseys and booing everything.

    I heart you, NY.

Jason, you just described my family reunion.
