I was tagged by fellow blogger Anonymous Mom to talk about a song that inspires me to write. It’s a good question but it’s one I haven’t really got an answer to. While I love music and frequently write about it, there isn’t a particular song that inspires me to write. However, something musical did inspire me yesterday…maybe inspire isn’t the right word, surprised is more appropriate. I’ll explain:
You know what I almost never say?
“Hey, let’s listen to Judas Priest”
The last time I listened to Judas Priest was probably in the 80’s courtesy of my metal loving cousin Ed who, if he’s reading this, will be disappointed that I own exactly zero Priest records. I don’t even own the one that rocks so hard it made kids shoot themselves (that’s hard rocking there).
So yesterday, with absolutely zero irony, I was watching Judas Priest videos on Youtube, specifically the two songs I remember from the early 80’s and I realized I had been singing one of them wrong for 25 years. They don’t say “Breakin’ the Law, Breakin’ the Law” as I always assumed. Singer Rob Halford, pronounces the full word making it “Breaking The Law, Breaking the Law”. I don’t know about you, but I think proper diction is awesome sadly, it is often overlooked. Rob Halford, you magnificent, gay metal bastard, I salute you. Whatever laws you may have been breaking, I’m happy to know that the laws of grammar were not among them.
