It Really DOES Feel Like The First Time

I never forget anything that I can sing, this is why I remember every commercial jingle and theme song I’ve ever heard. this comes in handy when someone says “How did the song to the Westchester County Fair go” I can say….

Everyone come join the fun
At The Greater Westchester County Fair
Every family, everywhere
at the Westchester County fair

Rides and attractions
Nonstop action!
Shows, animals, Fireworks too
It’s about the most fun thing you can do

You might be surprised at how often I’m asked to sing that. I’m also asked to sometimes sing the various songs from The Magic Garden. For those of you that didn’t grow up within range of WPIX in New York The Magic Garden was a show with two hot hippie women, a talking squirrel and a flower patch that told jokes…and the Storybox, cant forget that. The ladies, Carol and Paula were hot, I used to wish I could live with them, I still wish I could.

The TV themes and jingles are the positive part of my memory retention, the negative portion happened last night when I saw a comercial for a Foreigner greatest hits collection. I laughed and thought, “who buys Foreigner records?”

The the songs started playing, and I knew every one of them. Somehow, I am a walking Foreigner encyclopedia, this despite having never owned one of their records or seen them live. Look for yourself, you may know more of these songs than you realize, maybe not, but you have something, some show or band that you inexplicably have a comprehensive knowledge of despite not being a fan. I don’t know how this happens, maybe it doesn’t happen to you but if it does, I’d like to know about it.

  • The stories are here, they’re all in here,
    From Crafty Fox to Goldilocks,
In the story box, the story box, in the story box.

It’s time to say hello, hello, hello,
It’s time to say hello, hello and how do you do?
I’m fine, me too, we’re fine and how are you?
It’s time to shake your hand,
    Shake hands, shake hands,
It’s time to shake your hand, shake hands and how do you do?
I’m fine, me too, we’re fine, and how are you?

See ya, see ya. Hope you had a real good time, da-dum. Hope you have a real good morning, ooh, yeah. Hope we get to see you again!

  • I know this post is two years old, but dude, I’ve been SCOURING the interwebs to find a video of this f*cking commercial for my new blog… Stuck in my head from childhood along with “Nobody beats the wiz (nobody beats the wiiiiz)”, “Gotta Go to Mo’s”, and anything Fudgie the Whale or Cookie O’Puss related (all of which are youtubeable).

    Any help?
